American Jazz Review

The continuation of American Jazz Monthly, the new American Jazz Review was published monthly from October 1945 to March 1947 as the organ of the American Jazz Club. Beginning as a more professionally-set typescript publication, it transitioned over 1946 to become a more formal, newspaper-formatted magazine. In November 1945, a new editorial team of J. Robert Mantler and Mary Beckwith assumed control, with Peggy Hart joining in 1946. Many feature articles concerned important concerts by musicians such as Hazel Scott, Eddie Condon, Georg Brunis, and Wild Bill Davison. A monthly column, “In the Village” summarizes musical news in and around Greenwich Village in New York. Records and books are regularly reviewed.
