Only a single issue of Big Apple Jazz was published by FFO Communications, led by Bruce H. Hest, and edited by Barney Lane. Intending to provide information on the New York jazz scene, with directories and articles on musicians and venues, editor Barney Lane, program director for radio station WRVR, provided an overview of contemporary jazz’s different genres and aesthetics. Howard Newman wrote on progressive jazz and Su Yates discussed challenges faced by women in jazz. A collection of photography, an article on John Garcia Gensel, and advertising concludes the issue.
