Blue Flame was short-lived typescript and cut-and-paste magazine published and edited by Cary Baker, with a rotating group of assistant editors, in Chicago and the northern suburb of Wilmette. Devoted to blues and jazz in Chicago and on recordings, a total of 17 issues were published. The content found in RIPM Jazz reflects what could still be located: numbers 9-11, 14, 16 and 17-18. Should other issues be located, these will be loaded.

Blue Flame was largely distributed through record stores in Chicago, Boston, and various other locations. Sometimes described by the editors as a journal devoted to black music and musicians, they note that it was “produced by a group of students from cities north of Chicago.” Most of the articles focus on historic and current blues musicians, generally with connections to Chicago.
