Blues Research

Blues Research was an occasional supplement to Record Research, published 16 times between 1959 and 1971 by Len Kunstadt and edited by Anthony Rotante and Paul B. Sheatsley. Focusing on discographical issues for recordings categorized as “race” records, blues, and rhythm and blues (R&B), columns focused on different record labels, matrices, and track listings. Plenty of discographical information on early jazz and hillbilly can also be found, especially in articles on record labels with a broad range of offerings. Issue 6 is devoted to gospel. Many reissues and compilations are also reviewed, at a time when this music was becoming of greater interest in the folk and early rock ‘n’ roll scene.
