In the Groove

The house organ of the recording company RCA Victor, In the Groove was published monthly from a preliminary issue in December 1945 to January 1949. Printed in a small, slightly oversized octavo format, each twelve page issue focuses on musicians under contract to, and recordings released by, RCA Victor.

Each issue contains 40 to 50 short news stories, profiles, and information for jazz and popular song fans, illustrated by significant photography. Issues contain full page features written by prominent journalists, including Leonard Feather, Jack Egan, along with articles published by musicians themselves. Music in Hollywood appears regularly and Charles Schafhauser writes on polka. Although jazz (predominantly swing and some bebop) remains the musical focus throughout its publication run, popular singers and country and western appear regularly.
