Jazzfinder

Jazzfinder was the initiative of Orin Blackstone, previously publisher of the Index to Jazz. Blackstone intended Jazzfinder to be a purely informational publication, devoted to publishing information on new record releases and historic recordings, providing full session details (personnel on recordings, dates and locations, etc.) and other research data. In addition, research articles on recording history, musicians, producers, and more accompanies each issue.

Notably, Jazzfinder includes significant research and discographies of recordings produced abroad, including France, Australia, Argentina, Czechoslovakia, and Great Britain, in addition to those produced in the United States, especially New Orleans and Chicago. In January 1949, Jazzfinder changed titles to Playback.
