The defacto resumption of Bob Koester’s The Jazz Report (St. Louis, Chicago, 1953-1960), this “new” Jazz Report was the effort of Paul E. Affeldt (1931-2004), a jazz record collector, discographer, and producer in Ventura, California. Beginning anew with volume 1, number 1, Affeldt’s publication focused on traditional jazz and ragtime on recording. A typescript publication, it was published on a monthly basis through the first years before becoming increasingly irregular. In 1963-1965 it merged temporarily with Pat Cather’s Music Memories to form Music Memories and Jazz Report before resuming independent publication.

Profiles of historic traditional jazz musicians, research on recordings and record labels, reviews of recent rereleases and books, jazz news, and record sales lists comprise most issues. Other contributors to Jazz Report include Russ Cassidy, Trebor Jay Tichenor, Chris Stachwitz, Ken Grayson Mills, Bill Emery, Art Hodes, Bill Mitchell, and Phil Elwood.
