Jass Beat

A single issue of Jass Beat or Jazz Beat appears to have been published by the Jazz Appreciation Society of Schenectady, New York and edited by Tip Tower. A typescript and hand-drawn publication, the title given on the cover is Jazz Beat but the masthead, running titles, and internal references present the title as Jass Beat. The opening article by Nat Hentoff, “Arteriosclerosis in Jazz,” argues for the constant renewal of jazz against stifling tradition. Bob Tufts wrote on Milton Gabler of the Commodore Music Shop in New York City. Likely connected to the college scene in Schenectady, no other issues appear to have been published.
