Metronome - Music U.S.A.

Metronome: Music U.S.A. was a one year, ten-issue temporary renaming of the long-running journal Metronome. The title Music U.S.A. is given prominent graphic billing; the registration statement on the table of contents page lists the journal as such, also.

Music U.S.A. represented an attempt to rebrand a journal then publishing for some 75 years. In the December 1958 issue, the editor Bill Coss stated that Music U.S.A. would reflect “a broader, larger, more exciting magazine with even fresher jazz approaches” – a more modern publication. Aside from some graphic rebranding and layout changes, much of the content and contributors were the same as the previous Metronome.  Following issue number 10 (October 1959), the magazine went on hiatus until its return in June 1960.
