A continuation of All-American Band Leaders, Band Leaders began with volume 1, issue 7 (November 1943). In total, eighteen issues were published through volume 3, number 5 (June 1946) before being retitled as Band Leaders and Record Review. 

Similar to its predecessor, Band Leaders published profiles of prominent big band leaders, singers, musicians, and others in the music industry and Hollywood. Issues average approximately 60 pages in length.
