KC Jazz

Two issues of KC Jazz were published in 1978 by the Mid America Jazz Society and edited by Brian Morahan. With a mission to uplift local jazz musicians and promote jazz in Kansas City, a city with a significant jazz history, the first issue focused on the forthcoming Women in Jazz Festival, along with a tribute to pianist Jay McShann. The second and much larger issue provided portraits of song writer Michael Franks, pianist Bob James and saxophonist Mark Colby, the blues guitarist Son Seals, guitarist Ed Toler, and singer Nancy Wilson. Trumpet player Step Buddy Anderson provided an extended remembrance of the early days of bebop in Oklahoma City and St. Louis. Information on local concerts and activities completes each issue.
