Sabin's Happening's

Two issues of Sabin’s Happening’s (sic) appear to have been published, in November of 1971 and February 1972, by Ira Sabin of Sabin’s Discount Records. Continuing a newsletter published with simply the name of the record shop, Sabin notes the newsletter delay was caused by a move of the shop to 3212 Pennsylvania Avenue S.E. in Washington, D.C. The two issues have a curious numbering – vol. 12 nos. 69 and 70, likely harkening back to the shop’s founding in the early 1960s – and claim a circulation of 30,000.

Sabin’s Happening’s expanded the previous Sabin’s Discount Records through the inclusion of additional columnists, including Leonard Feather, Bill Clark of WRC radio, Cal Hucket of WUST, Vernon Walsh of the Left Bank Jazz Society (Baltimore), Bernard E. Montgomery, Mike Oberman of the Evening Star newspaper, and Bobby Bennett of WOL radio, each covering different aspects of the musical scene in Washington D.C., including jazz (contemporary to traditional), R&B, soul, gospel, rock ‘n’ roll, and oldies.
