The Jazz Scene

The Jazz Scene was a short-lived publication of EMI Records from offices in Lansdowne House near Berkeley Square (London) and edited by Peter Leslie. Reflecting EMI's significant catalog of labels, including Columbia Records, His Master’s Voice (HMV), and Parlophone, The Jazz Scene provided articles on significant artists then active, reissues, and news from the jazz world. The magazine’s publication appeared after the debut of the Columbia Records Lansdowne Series which featured British jazz musicians.

Well-printed, with good photographic reproductions, regular contributors included Jeremy French, Alun Morgan, Patrick Gwynn-Jones, Max Jones, Alexis Korner, Jeff Aldam, Stanley Dance, Joe Harriott, among others. Of note is Charles Fox’s serialized history of jazz. Twelve issues in total were published. In the final issue, an announcement for a further issue (July 1963) was announced without EMI’s sponsorship, but this did not materialize.
