The organ of the record labels Good Time Jazz and Contemporary Records, GTJ and CR News was a four-page quarterly newsletter to promote and discuss recent releases. Good Time Jazz was founded in 1949 by Lester Koenig with a focus on traditional jazz, in both historic rereleases and new recordings. Koenig also founded Contemporary Records, a jazz label with a broader remit, which released many West Coast jazz records and a broad selection of other musicians. As a result, the range of musicians and recordings discussed is quite diverse, ranging from Kid Ory and Baby Dodds to Art Pepper, Andre Previn, Helen Humes, and many others. David Stuart edited all issues of GTJ and CR News except the final one, which was guest edited by Leonard Feather.
