The Jazz Blast was a typescript monthly publication issued by Marv Edwards and John “Art Gum” Smith in Mount Ephraim, New Jersey, near Philadelphia. With the occasional masthead declaration “Dedicated to the Preservation of Big Bands and Traditional Jazz,” most issues contained performance and record reviews, record reviews, and jazz news, along with portraits of musicians.
Although The Jazz Blast began in 1968, RIPM Jazz contains the years 1970 to 1973. Should the first two years become available, these will be included, also.
